Warship: Life at Sea documents the everyday life on board HMS Duncan, one of the most advanced warships in the world. With unprecedented access to the Royal Navy’s £1billion Type 45 Destroyer over a seven month-period, our cameras capture the most dramatic moments in the ship’s short history. This 4-part series follows the ups and downs of Duncan’s crew and reveals their lives on the ship in intimate detail, as these 280 men and women, including their female captain, find themselves at the centre of some of the most sensitive military operations in recent years.

2018-11-26The crew make final preparations for launch under the watchful eye of Captain Eleanor Stack, before the ship sets out on a seven-month mission to the Mediterranean and Black Sea. As HMS Duncan passes into the Black Sea, the operation begins in earnest with the sudden emergence of a Russian warship that begins to follow it.

2018-12-03HMS Duncan is deep in the heart of the Black Sea as it heads towards Crimea, when a Russian ship it has been tracking suddenly disappears. Pilots Johnny Hamlyn and Tim Dunning take off in a Wildcat helicopter and discover that it is a spy ship, probably on a mission to monitor the Duncan. The situation soon escalates as Russian jets start circling the Royal Navy ship, and Commodore Mike Utley and Captain Eleanor Stack must assess the situation and consider how best to protect their personnel.

2018-12-10Reports that a chemical weapon has been used in Salisbury changes the mood onboard. It is alleged that the Russians are behind the attack and with the ship heading towards Montenegro the crew are on guard. When another chemical attack takes place, this time in Syria, the ship goes to action stations for the first time.

Season 2 (2020)
Series 2 follows HMS Duncan on her most dramatic mission yet as they are sent to the two of the world’s most dangerous regions. Their mission: to spend two months conducting anti-Isis campaigns off the coast of Syria. However, as in series 1, international events lead HMS Duncan into uncharted waters as they are called into action at the frontline as tensions with Iran reach unprecedented levels.

Season 3 (2022)
Series 3 reveals what the daily life is like on board HMS Northumberland, one of the most advanced warships in the Royal Navy. With unprecedented access to the Type 23 Frigate and its crew of over 200 people, we reveal what it means to live and work at sea for months at a time – as far North as the Arctic Circle – and follow the crew as they battle a threat from Russian warship sand nuclear submarines surrounding the UK in an attempt to overwhelm the Royal Navy.

The timely arrival of ship's new chaplain coincides with a growing problem of decreasing morale, brought on as a result of the crew's inability to take time off. As HMS Northumberland leaves port, the chaplain tries to help the crew through another challenging mission.

2022-02-07HMS Northumberland is deployed off the west coast of Ireland and receives intelligence that a Russian warship has been spotted heading towards Faslane, the home of the British Trident submarine base.
