Commander Kolchek wins a shocking victory in the Baltic Sea. When he returns he is celebrated and fatefully meets Anna, the wife of his fellow Officer.

Because of his victory in the Baltic, Kolcheck is promoted and honored, and is then ordered to fight for Constantinople. During all of this, he and Anna are growing ever closer, right under the noses of their significant others.

All seems to be in Kolcheck's favor, until the emperor Nicholas II abdicates the throne destroying the monarchy and sending Russia into turmoil. Anna and Kolcheck pine for each other and Sofya goes to Constantinople to be with her husband.

Without high command, the military and the country are in turmoil. Soldiers are rebelling against officers. The provisional government offers a political job to Kolcheck that he refuses. He wishes to continue fighting the Germans alongside America. He does not allow Anna to travel with him, and in an unfortunate turn of events, loses contact with his wife and son.

Sofya and her son go into hiding while Anna makes a mission of finding Kolcheck, who is now in Japan. Kolcheck's role there is not satisfying his need to fight for his country, so he heads to Omsk to receive a promotion unlike any other.

As Russia's supreme ruler, Kolcheck is winning the favor of his country, until one of his Generals begins to abuse his power. Anna is with Kolcheck in Omsk, but Sofya, who has finally heard of her husband's whereabouts, is determined to reunite with him again.

It is getting harder and harder to thwart the rebellion. Both the provisional government and Kolcheck himself are staring into the faces of their own frustrated countrymen, right in the middle of the ferocious war with the Germans. Everything is unstable, including the relationship between Kolcheck and Anna, as Sofya and Rostislav reunite and make their way to Omsk.

Kolchek is becoming aware of both the political and physical effects of the war, and with Omsk under threat, he must evacuate the city. He reconnects with Anna and asks her to be with him.

The war front still rages on, and now there is money missing from the Russian Echelon. The rebellion has its claws in the provincial government, demanding Kolchek's head. Kolchek hears of this and must decide if he will face the threat head on or run away.
