LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – Lionsgate has pre-emptively picked up the action thriller spec "Last Stand" from writer Andrew Knauer. The story, described as having shades of "Gone in 60 Seconds" and "High Noon," features a Gumpert Apollo, a race car used by drug smugglers, and it centers on a cartel leader that uses it to break out of a courthouse. As he speeds to the Mexican border, the only thing standing in his way is a border-town sheriff and his inexperienced staff. Knauer a former assistant and intern, quit his job to write full-time, with "Last Stand" the resulting screenplay.
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Paramount has bought a family-oriented adventure-comedy pitch from Jim Field Smith and George Kay. The logline is being kept under wraps, but those familiar with the project describe it as a fantasy-tinged comedy in the vein of "Night at the Museum." Field Smith, director of the upcoming DreamWorks romcom "She's Out of My League," is on board to shoot from a script he will write with Kay.
