Picking up where the original Nightmare left off, Nancy has grown up and become a psychiatrist specializing in dream therapy. She meets a group of children at a local hospital facing Freddy Krueger, the same demon she once encountered in her sleep. One of them is Kristen, who has the power to draw other people into her dreams. Working with a male doctor assigned to the case, Nancy helps the kids realize their special abilities within the nightmare world. When Freddy captures one of her charges, she leads a rescue attempt into Krueger's domain, in hopes of putting his spirit to rest once and for all. |

Third "Nightmare" movie in which Freddy continues to terrorize the dreams of the last of the Elm Street children. They all end up in the psychiatric wing of a hospital where dedicated doctor Neil Gordon (Craig Wasson) and original survivor Nancy Thompson (Heather Langenkamp) work overtime to help and protect them.
One of the strongest entries in the series (at least from my perspective), this shows more imagination than the second movie and the talents of the cast and crew are evident. At this point, Freddy was still a scary figure and the nightmares are well realized (excellent special effects, too). I agree that there is good camaraderie among the young cast and that this entry shows a little more hope for the intended victims than other entries.
Good, entertaining horror sequel.
Among the four writers who worked on the screenplay are original "Nightmare" creator Wes Craven, director Chuck Russell, and future director Frank Darabont, based on a story by Craven and Bruce Wagner.

After the events of part 2, A girl named Kirsten Parker ( Patrica Arquette) has been having awful dreams of Freddy Krueger ( Robert Englund) as he still continues his reign of terror upon the children of Elm Street. Now she and the last of the Elm Street kids are in a psychiatric ward, but they are not safe for long as Freddy will have their souls but Nancy Thompson ( Heather Langenkamp) who survived the original attack on Elm Street is now a dream researcher and must help the teens along with her father (John Saxton) to defeat the dream-stalking maniac.
Vast improvement over the disappointing part 2 with better storyline and better special effects, plus it's written by the original's creator Wes Craven and co-written by future "Shawshank Redemption" &" Green Mile" director Frank Darabont and the director of "The Mask" and "The Blob ( 1988)" Chuck Russell. This also introduces a comical Freddy than the serious one horror fans know from parts 1 & 2, the make-up effects and special effects were quite good for it's time especially around the age of computer images. There are some quite disturbing yet memorable scenes such as a teen boy gets his arm sides sliced then the nerves pulled up so he can be Freddy's puppet and a dark sense of humor which also helps make this movie the best and most satisfying of the series. |
