empty shells of human beings inhabit assayas' industrial nightmare in a more coherent, quick and modest version of "demonlover".
the plot is surprisingly intricate and well tied up, but it's hanging in the background which might confuse some viewers.
while anti-heroes are driving and shooting with fake determination, body language plays a big part and action scenes look like the awkward mess that the characters are made of.
it's the modern take on antonioni's emptiness theme with guns and flesh.
ultimately, morally bankrupt ruthless manipulators fall victims to their hearts. |
